Liberty in North Korea
LiNK is the only full time grassroots organization working solely on the North Korea crisis in North America. Our work entails aiding and protecting North Korean refugees in the underground, advocating on their behalf and for the North Korean crisis in general, providing assistance upon resettlement in countries that will provide them with asylum, and raising awareness through creative media (such as videos) and mobilizing the grassroots through LiNK Rescue Teams.
In 2004 by a group of college students at Yale University.
We rely completely on private donations and do not accept funding from governments or political parties. As such, we have full independence and flexibility in our activities and are able to make objective and impartial recommendations.

Yes, we have a Governing Board with fiduciary responsibility, and also an Advisory Board.
Yes! We are always looking for incredible new individuals to join our team as interns, volunteers, and even sometimes full-time positions.
LiNK headquarters is now located in Torrance, California, thirty minutes south of Los Angeles. We were previously based in Washington, DC.
We have a full-time creative team and we also train our staff to capture the untold stories of North Korean refugees through video, photos and other mediums (always with their consent and ensuring the protection of their identity).
There are many ways you can get involved depending on what your interests, skills and resources are. You can organize a screening or start a Rescue Team, set up a personal fundraising page or just simply donate, or consider interning or working with LiNK. The easiest way to get involved is to learn about the issue and then talk about it to everyone around you. If you have other ideas of how you want to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Don’t hesitate to contact us!
Because of security concerns and also the extra-legal nature of our work in the field, the exact locations (even certain countries) we operate in are not public information. The safety and security of our refugees, staff and partners is always our utmost priority.
We understand that everyone has different circumstances and opportunities. Share the story of North Korea with everyone you know. Be informed, use our media as a resource, or think of creative ideas to spread awareness. Everything counts!
We are encouraged that you would think of LiNK. Please send a detailed proposal to [email protected]
Thank you for your willingness to support of our work, none of which would be possible without you. Please send all checks and money orders (made payable to “Liberty in North Korea”) to:

Yes, wearing your support is a great way to raise awareness and support our work.
Unfortunately, sending large packages to the field is quite expensive! Instead we raise funds for specific needs (shelter, food, clothing, shoes, books, etc.) and send such funding directly to Asia, where it is often much cheaper to purchase needed things as well. This is why your donations are so important!
Yes! You may write your letter to [email protected] We particularly encourage your letters during the holidays (Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, etc) as it uplifts spirits in the shelter and often provides hope and support!
We are excited to hear that you would like to meet with us! Please contact us at [email protected] to set up a meeting.
Yes! While we hope to raise awareness of the North Korea crisis in every corner of the world, we know this is impossible without your help. Please let us know what your event is and when it is–we’d love to hear all about it!
Thanks for coming to LiNK as a resource for your event! Please email us more information at [email protected] with the subject line “Speaker Request.” We will confirm if we can send a LiNK representative.
Please send all press inquiries to [email protected]
Thanks for coming to us as a resource! Please peruse our website to find as much information about our work and the North Korea crisis as you can. Beyond that, you are welcome to send additional questions to [email protected] As a small office with limited resources, we cannot guarantee that answers will be provided in time for your deadline, but we will certainly try!
Many North Korean refugees we work with prefer to keep their identity private, which we respect. While it is often difficult to fulfill these types of requests, we are willing to consider such requests and pass them on if appropriate. However, we always leave the decision up to the individuals concerned. If you would like to submit a request, please send a detailed inquiry to [email protected]
